Delhi is the capital city of India and has served as the capital city to many ruling dynasties of India. The city shows a perfect amalgamation of past and present. Delhi is symbolized as chaotic embroidery of primitive establishments, Mughal tombs, dusty bazaars and colonial architecture.
We shall start our day with a visit to India Gate.This arch was built to commemorate the death of 70,000 soldiers who laid down their lives during World War 1. The memorial even imprints the names of British and Indian soldiers who laid their lives during Afghan war. This splendid monument was designed by Edwin Luyten. There is an immortal flame that burns throughout the day and night as a mark of remembrance.
In the close vicinity of the India Gate lies the Parliament House which is a circular colonnade building, housing offices of various ministries and a well-stocked library. This imperial style architectural monument comprises of open air verandah and 144 columns. It is indeed a sight to watch.
Next to the Parliament House is Rashtrapati Bhawan, the residential estate of President of India. This magnificent complex is astounding in every aspect – its size, immensity and magnificence. Rashtrapati Bhawan houses 4 storeys and 340 rooms.
Then we move ahead to visit Qutub Minar, the worlds tallest brick minaret. This ancient Persian architecture style tower was built in 1193 AD. was built by Qutub Ud Din Aibak as a symbol of victory. The tower also houses the first mosque of the country.
Next stop is Humayun’s Tomb. It was the first garden tomb of Indian subcontinent. The tomb of Humayun was built by his widow, Biga Begum (Hajji Begum) in 1569-70, 14 years after his death, at the cost of 1.5 million rupees. It has inspired several major architectural innovations, culminating in construction of Taj Mahal.
In the afternoon we drive to Old Delhi. The first stop would be at Raj Ghat.
Raj Ghat is the memorial built to mark the cremation spot of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He was the man who changed the course of history with his ideologies and philosophies. There is a simple black cenotaph which marks the spot of cremation with an immortal flame burning at one end.
After paying respect to the Father of Nation, we then go to witness the grandeur of the Mughal Empire, the majestic Red Fort. Red Fort served as the center of operations for the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for two centuries. This majestic monument is now used as a platform by the Prime minister of India to address the people of India on the eve of Independence Day.
Board on to a rickshaw and enjoy a rickshaw ride through the intricate alleys of Chandni Chowk. After a joyful ride, we stop at Jama Masjid. Jama Masjid is the oldest and one of Asia’s largest mosques. It was built by Shah Jahan in the year 1656.
Return to Hotel for overnight stay.
Early morning we drive to Agra.
Agra finds its name in the great Indian epics, but the city became world famous during Mughal Reign. The city served as the capital of the Mughal dynasty for several years. Agra is noted for its World Heritage sites and inlay marble work. Setting itself beautifully on the banks of River Yamuna, the city is a huge tourist hub with its diverse marble and red sandstone structures.
Reach Agra and check in at hotel. We shall start our sightseeing tour by visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal is regarded as the epitome of love. It was built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal as a final resting place. The monument was built by the hard work of 20,000 workers and was completed in 22 years. The architect of the masterpiece was Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, a Persian architect. It is also renowned for its stylish domes, exceptionally carved screens, and for finest inlay work.
Then we shall move to Agra Fort, an imperialist fort situated on the banks of river Yamuna and served as the center of operation for the Mughal emperor Akbar. The fortified walls of the fort encompass several palaces and complexes like Moti Masjid, Diwan-I-Am, Diwan-I-Khas etc. The fort is the finest architectural monument built in red sandstone.
Later we shall set out for Sikandra, the tomb of Akbar. Located on the outskirt of the city, the ruler started building his tomb during his lifespan, but the contruction was finally completed by his son , Jahangir. The white marble memorial has manicured lawns with exceptionally engraved gateways. It is a symbol of Din-E-Ilahi, a new religion founded by Akbar which incorporates the best elements of Hindu, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Jainism. Overnight stay at Hotel
After breakfast, we leave for Jaipur, that known by the pink city is last and most popular part of Golden triangle tour.
While on our way to Jaipur, stop en-route and visit Fatehpur Sikri. It is situated at a distance of 37 km from Agra and served as short term capital city of the Mughal Empire under the supremacy of Akbar the Great. Akbar ordered for the construction of grand mosque as a token of appreciation to the saint who had predicted that he would be blessed with a son. When forecast of the saint came true, Akbar shifted his capital from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri. He even constructed three palaces for his favorite wives. The city was a perfect presentation of Indo Islamic style.
Later Proceed to Jaipur. After reaching there, check in at hotel.
Jaipur, commonly known as the Pink City is the capital and the largest city of the state Rajasthan. It is called Pink city because most of the structures in the city are tinted with pink color which is a pictorial treat to the eyes. The city is the melting pot of Indian tourism as it boasts numerous well-known monuments. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.
After breakfast, we set out for an excursion to Amer Fort.
Ascend towards Amer Fort on the back of the elephant. Perched high on the hill, 11 kms from the capital city, the palace is a classic romantic fort with the artistic style of Hindu elements in its architecture. The palace has beautiful fusion of both Hindu and Mughal architecture which is an ultimate feature of this fort.
In the afternoon we go for sightseeing of Jaipur. We start with a visit to City Palace.
City Palace is a complex of palaces with many courtyards. The palace was built by Sawai Jai Singh II between 1729 to 1732 AD. The architecture of the palace is a great combination of three styles, namely, Mughal, Rajput and European.
The next ornament we visit is Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, Hawa Mahal, commonly known as Palace of Winds. It was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to enable ladies of the royal household to watch the life and processions of the city and enjoy street festivals from the windows.
Next we shall visit Jantar Mantar, which is an astronomical observatory built by Jai Singh II. It is one of the largest and the best preserved observatories in the country. The observatory consists of fourteen major geometric devices for measuring time, predicting eclipses, tracking stars in their orbits, ascertaining the declinations of planets, and determining the celestial altitudes. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
After Breakfast, we depart for Mandawa. Mandawa is a small town located 160 kms from Jaipur and is renowned for its forts and havelis. The city of Mandawa was founded in the 18th century. Mandawa is often known as Open Art Gallery because of its forts and havelis. Marvelous mansions dot the town and make it an important tourist attraction of Rajasthan.
Arrive and check in the hotel.
In the afternoon, we leave to explore beautiful Havelis which were built by great merchant families in that era. There are various havelis such as Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli which is known for the paintings that display Lord Shiva on Nandi bull and Indra Dev on an elephant; Jhunjhunwala Haveli is known for its striking gold leaf painted room located to the right of main courtyard; Mohan Lal Saraf Haveli famous for the picture of a Maharaja stroking his mustache, and Aakharam ka Haveli which is more than 100 year old Haveli.
Overnight stay
In the morning we shall drive back to New Delhi.
Arrive in New Delhi. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy shopping in the bustling markets of Delhi.
In the evening we shall transfer you to the airport and bid you good bye with everlasting imprints of your memorable journey.
